Terms of Service
1. Agreement
By downloading, installing, or using the Orthodox Daily mobile application ("the App"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
2. About the App
Orthodox Daily is a free mobile application for daily prayer and the Orthodox Christian liturgical calendar, supporting five languages (English, Russian, Greek, Romanian, Serbian) and both Julian and Revised Julian calendar traditions. It is developed and maintained by Kauffen, operated by a sole trader registered in Portugal.
The App is provided as-is, free of charge, with no advertisements, subscriptions, or hidden charges.
3. Religious Content Disclaimer
Orthodox Daily reproduces traditional Orthodox prayers, liturgical calendars, scripture readings, and saints' commemorations sourced from public-domain editions or with appropriate permissions. Prayer texts have been reviewed by native-speaker reviewers where indicated.
The App is not a substitute for clerical, theological, or pastoral authority. It is a devotional aid. For questions of doctrine, sacramental life, confession, or the canonical application of fasting rules, please consult a priest or spiritual father in your tradition.
Where the App's calendar or fasting rules conflict with the practice of your local parish or jurisdiction, defer to your local clergy.
4. License
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download and use the App on devices you own or control, solely for your own personal, non-commercial devotional use.
You may not:
- Copy, modify, distribute, or sell the App or its compiled binaries
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from the App
- Use the App to harass, defame, or impersonate any religious institution
- Use the App in any manner that violates applicable laws
Public-domain prayer texts and scripture remain in the public domain regardless of their inclusion in the App; you are free to use those underlying texts independently.
5. Voluntary Contributions ("Bless this app")
The App is free. We accept voluntary contributions of an amount you choose, processed by Stripe, Inc.
By making a contribution, you acknowledge that:
- Contributions are voluntary gifts of support, not purchases of a product or service
- Contributions are non-refundable, except where required by applicable law or where a payment has been processed in error (in which case please contact us)
- Stripe is the payment processor; its terms apply to the payment transaction itself: stripe.com/legal
- Contributions are received by the developer (a Portuguese sole trader) and are used to fund ongoing translation, proofreading, hosting, app store fees, and continued development
- Contributions are not tax-deductible charitable donations under Portuguese law; we are not a registered charity or religious institution
6. No Warranty
The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including without limitation any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
While we make reasonable efforts to ensure the accuracy of liturgical data, prayer texts, scripture readings, calendar computations, and saints' commemorations, we make no guarantees of completeness, correctness, or absence of errors.
You acknowledge that calendar computations, particularly those for Pascha and movable feasts across many years, can contain edge cases; you should verify important dates with authoritative sources such as your jurisdiction's official calendar.
7. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event shall Kauffen, the developer, or any contributors be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenues, data, or use, arising out of or in connection with your use of the App.
Our total cumulative liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the App shall not exceed the total amount of voluntary contributions you have made to us (which may be zero).
8. Intellectual Property
The App's source code, design, user interface, custom illustrations, icons, and trade dress are the intellectual property of Kauffen.
Prayer texts, scripture readings, hymns (troparia, kontakia, akathists, canons), and saints' commemorations included in the App are sourced from public-domain editions or with permission from rights holders. Sources are cited within the App and in its public documentation.
If you believe any content in the App infringes a copyright you hold, please contact us at geral@kauffen.com with details, and we will investigate promptly.
9. Privacy
Your privacy is governed by our Privacy Policy. In summary: we collect no personal data, store everything locally on your device, and use no analytics, ads, or trackers.
10. Termination
You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it.
We may discontinue or suspend the App, in whole or in part, at any time, with or without notice. Your right to use any version of the App you have already downloaded continues for so long as the App functions on your device.
11. Updates
We may release updates to the App that add, modify, or remove features. By keeping automatic updates enabled, you consent to receiving these updates. You are not obligated to accept any update; you may continue using older versions, though we may not be able to support them.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Portugal, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising from or related to these Terms or your use of the App shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Portugal, unless mandatory consumer protection laws of your country of residence provide otherwise.

13. Changes to These Terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the Effective Date above and, where appropriate, notify users through an in-app notice on the next launch. Your continued use of the App after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms.
14. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
